Living with chronic edema/lymphedema is hard. We can help make it easier.
Whether you’re living with lymphedema, lipedema, or chronic edema, our goal is to help you feel more comfortable in your body and supported in your care.
Understanding your condition
Swelling can have many causes, and understanding which type you’re dealing with helps guide effective care.
Edema is a general term for swelling caused by fluid buildup in the body’s tissues. It can result from things like injury, medication, or medical conditions such as heart or kidney issues. This type of swelling often improves when the underlying cause is treated or with simple measures like elevation and movement.
Lymphedema is a chronic condition that occurs when protein-rich fluid builds up in the tissues, causing swelling, heaviness, and discomfort. It often develops after surgery, injury, infection, scarring, or radiation therapy that affects the lymphatic system.
Lymphedema of the arm is particularly common after breast cancer treatment.
Lipedema is a chronic condition that causes a symmetrical buildup of painful, fibrotic fat, most often in the legs, hips, and sometimes arms.
It’s not caused by diet or lifestyle, and it doesn’t respond to typical weight loss efforts.
Lipedema can lead to tenderness, bruising, and a feeling of heaviness, and it may progress over time. Managing it early can help reduce discomfort and prevent complications like lipo-lymphedema when the lymphatic system becomes compromised.
Each of these conditions requires a different approach — and that’s where specialized care makes all the difference.
Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is considered the gold standard in lymphedema care. It combines:
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) — soothing, gentle techniques to encourage fluid movement
Compression therapy — with bandages or garments to help reduce and maintain swelling
Exercise and movement — to support lymphatic flow
Skin care — to keep your skin healthy and protected
Our therapists provide specialized care and compassionate support through every step:
Lindsay, RMT, focuses on upper limb, post mastectomy lymphedema and lipedema management. Lindsay is also an ADP Authorizer
Karen, RN, provides care for lower-limb edema, lymphedema management and wound care.
They’ll create a treatment plan that fits your needs and your lifestyle. Your care may include more frequent visits at first, or the use of compression bandaging to bring swelling under control, followed by a maintenance phase to help you stay comfortable and confident.
You don’t have to manage this alone
Whether your swelling is due to edema, lymphedema, or lipedema, we’re here to help you find greater ease, comfort, and confidence in your daily life.
